About clifor.ai

What is clifor.ai?

clifor.ai is a curated directory of command-line tools for AI coding agents. We catalog CLIs that work with Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, and other AI-powered development environments — with install commands, editorial reviews, and head-to-head comparisons with MCP alternatives.

Every tool listing includes verified install commands, GitHub stats, editorial analysis of when to use it (and when to skip it), FAQ, and alternatives. We don't do thin content — every page has 500+ words of original editorial.

Why CLI tools?

AI coding agents need to interact with external services. The two main interfaces are CLI tools and MCP servers. Benchmarks show that CLI tools use 9–32× fewer tokens and deliver near-perfect reliability compared to MCP servers for well-known operations.

That doesn't mean CLI is always better — MCP wins for discovery, streaming, and structured schemas. But for the bread-and-butter operations that AI agents perform thousands of times per day, CLI is faster, cheaper, and more reliable. We help developers find the right CLI tool for each service.

How do we curate tools?

Every tool goes through a verification process: we check GitHub stars and activity, test install commands across platforms, review documentation, and write original editorial content. We never fabricate numbers or generate filler content. If a stat can't be verified, we don't include it.

Each tool page answers three questions: what can your AI agent actually do with this CLI, what are the limitations an agent will hit, and when should you use an MCP server instead? We test install commands on macOS and Linux, verify that JSON output modes work as documented, and flag any interactive prompts that would block an AI agent.

Our editorial is independent. No tool vendor pays for placement, and we don't accept sponsored listings. If a tool has rough edges, we say so. If a competitor does something better, we link to it. The goal is to save developers time — not to sell them something.

Tool submissions coming soon — we're building a proper submission flow.
